I am new to this board, so howdy to everyone here!

I have been a diver for about 3 years now, with about 30 dives under my belt. I am going to be spending a week in Kona soon (either shore diving or liveabord diving) and I am considering buying a computer.

I have never dove with a computer before, but the computers I have seen before seemed pretty simple, a circular graph displays nitrogen loading, with green, yellow and red nitrogen levels. From lurking around this board, it seems like the Suunto mosquito or vyper is the way to go, but these computers don't look like the round graph computers I am used to.

I guess my question is, do the mosquito and the vyper display this same sort of information, and how easy is it to read? What do they use instead of the "circular bar graph" I have seen on other computers?

With regards to the readability, there really isn't a problem. I got a mosquito recently and had no problems reading it eventhough I am EXTREMELY shortsighted and was diving without any corrective lessons.

The mosquito is the first dive computer I have used so I can't compare it to others. The only minus I have about it, is the face is easily scratched but from feedback from this board it is also relatively easy to prevent with some protective tape.

O.K., I've pretty much made up my mind on the mosquito. I've been surfing around for an hour looking for a place to buy one! Other than e-bay which I don't like (sellers can compete for my business, not the other way around thank you very much), where can I get one of these beauties? My local dive shop had not even heard of them.

YOUR LDS HAS NOT EVEN HEARD OF THEM... TIME TO FIND A NEW LDS.... Yikes...

anyhow,,,,, before you make that purchase... think about a Cobra...

Try to use a few before you buy... I'd have been heart broken if I bought a Vyper and then tried a Cobra... could just be me

Yes they are in spain, but the prices can't be beat and it'll be at your door in less than three days..

Good Luck

Ohh ya... by the way.. yer looking a $100 difference for a WAY better computer...

go Cobra, you won't regret it

I plan to get a mosquuito with another friend in about a month's time. Because I am getting two my LDS is willing to offer me USD$250 for them. The only problem is that I live across the globe and if you need it urgently, that may take a while. Also, if I am correct, the warrntly is meant for first owner only and covers locally or something like that. If you dont need it urgently, you could probably contact me at savant68@hotmail.com, my region sells pretty cheap gear. Just got a second hand zeagle ranger for at least half the retail price of many auctions on ebay. And it only saw 8 dives.
The mosquito in my opinion is one of the best budget hand held dive coms, but my buddy dives with a CObra and he goes on non stop about it. It depend on personal preferrence, personally, I love to dive light.
