I have heard that camera strobes will interfer with the transmitters for hoseless computers. Is that just when the flash goes off, or is it a constant thing? Anyone?

(Sorry, I don't follow the BISS doctrine of decision-making. -grin)

Bill,

Well, I did end my statement by saying that if we're talking recreational, then I wouldn't worry about it anyway. I was under the impression that BradyMSU was either into, or leaning towards, technical diving. My advice is to forget about computers for technical diving -- especially hoseless computers. I don't have a problem with computers for recreational diving, but I wouldn't spend the money for a hoseless computer anyway. I just don't see them as adding anything significantly beneficial to the dive -- more likely, IMO, another unneeded (unneeded is the key word here) potential failure point.

If someone wants me to thoroghly outline why computer generated tables (which you bring with you, BTW ) are the better way to go for technical diving, I'll do so.

Later.

Mike

PS. I don't blame ya for not following B.I.S.S. I don't either. :)

Thanks for the clarification, Mike. I saw where you said you wouldn't worry about "it" for recreational diving, but it wasn't clear to me just what "it" was. Seems you're now saying that using a computer to calculate decompression is fine, so long as you use the right algorithm for the dive? That wasn't clear from your first statement.

I had missed the part where bradymsu was asking about a computer for "technical" diving rather than just recreational diving. I'll have to agree with you that the hoseless air integrated computers that are commercially available now are probably not up to the task of deciding profiles for aggressive decompression diving. They are a good tool, but were not designed for that job.

I would not use a hoseless air integrated dive computer to determine my dive profile on the Andrea Doria, for example. But I also would not use a small deco bottle of 100% O2 as my sole gas supply for that dive either. The 100% O2 deco bottle is a fine tool if used properly, and a dangerous tool if used improperly. Just like a dive computer- which is a perfectly fine tool for typical recreational diving when used properly.

BTW, you might bring your tables along with you on your dive, but I doubt that bring along the algorithm that generated them. (At least I hope not. Your PC would short out pretty quick!) Since it's hard to generate and carry along tables for every conceivable dive profile, I prefer to bring my decompression algorithm along with me on my recreational dives in case my plans change. Personally I think recreational dive computers are a great tool for the kind of diving I do.

I have a question,
lets say there are a buddy team or several divers with the same computers
isnt there a risk that the computers might send to the wrong lcd device or the air integration unit sends to the wrong computer (however one now wants to see it)

so that the buddy gets your readings instead of his own or vice versa

or is there some type of signal sending a special id infront of every reading ?

and if so would it be possible to change computers fx that i read my buddys air aswell as my own in some sort of menu or by pressing a button ?
of course with some sort of warning that I now read his values instead of my own fx the display flashing or something

anyone ??
