I bought one and am still reading the manual. It is nice looking, but I'm a woman and it is just slightly larger than a stinger so it may be exchanged. I haven't decided yet.
It is very elegantly built, the numbers are easy to read, but the buttons are smaller and a little more difficult to use than on a mosquito. The small buttons aren't a big deal for my small fingers but I can imagine dry suit gloves could make things difficult. I haven't dived it yet, but if I decide to keep it it'll get wet in 3 weeks.

Diver0001:
Did anyone buy a Suunto D9 yet? It looks sweet.

R..

I have one. I just took it diving in Florida over Thanksgiving and couldn't be happier. The display is terrific and it's very user-friendly.

Diver0001:
how's the compass?

I can't say I've used mine yet, other than to play around with it a bit during one dive. It's easy to access (one button push pulls it up) and gives you a graphic compass display as well as numerical bearings. If you lock in a bearing, it displays arrows pointing toward the bearing. In an earlier D9 thread, there were some questions about lag time and how quickly digital compasses react... I didn't notice a lag myself, but since I tend to fin along in Slow speed, and since I wasn't relying on the compass for navigation anyway, I might not have noticed even if the compass was slow to react.

AEIOU:
My LDS said that there is a recall for the D9

You are correct. I saw another thread asking about the recall so I went ahead and confirmed it with Suunto. Here is their reply in regards to the recall.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting Suunto.

It is true that there has been made a recall for D9. Please bring your device to the retailer where you bought it and let them send it in for service for a software update.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause you.

I've also just gotten an email from Suunto helpdesk that my D9 needed to be serviced before diving. This is a big hassle because I'm off on a three month diving trip that begins January 3rd and my mosquito is already being serviced and without a D9 I'll have nothing. Oh well, hope my dealer will trade in for a Stinger.
