My wife is getting me my first computer (b-day present), never had one before, after talking with some divers I have come down to these two: Suunto D4 or the Cressi Edy II, they are both on the price range she wants to spend. After reading the info on both I can see they are practically the same, I would be thankfull for any input (pros & cons) on both computers.

Thanks

I can not help you with the Cressi and I have not used the D4 but I have owned several Suuntos including the D3. I have found their computers to be fine computers and reliable. Many complain they are "too" conservative but I have not even while doing multiple days of deep dives 100+. They are feature packed computers.

With the Dive Computer Research tool you can see a side by side comparison.

Also, e have an online class for the D4 with lots of videos

I can't say anything about the D4.....but I use the EdyII, Nice little unit. Very Easy to use. Easy to read. And looks good out of the water too. I really can't think of any Cons with it.

thank you for your comments, one more question, I´ve been reading in the forum that the suunto has another way of calculating de decomp times and that it punishes the next dive if for example you stay less than one hour on the boat, or if you blow your saftey stop. does the edy do the same thing or it uses another method to calculate.

I just read that, I have not seen some arbitrary 60 minute penalty, I have many dives where my SI is 30 - 60 minutes and I have not run into problems. Of course the depths of those dives were under 80 feet.

From the tech info Sunnto uses RGBM & Edy uses Buhlmann as an algorithm, from what I can see in some posts, alot of you guys prefer Buhlmann than RGBM because it gives you more time, Is this correct or am I reading something wrong? At this time I´m only O/W but diving is growing on me and I would like to become an advanced diver, I would like my computer to grow with me, not to have to buy a new one in a few years.

Both will grow with your diving. I have used my Suunto for many extended days of repetitive deep diving. (i.e. 4 dives a day with many in the 100+ range).
