Gee whiz, this thread was dead and buried....

My wife and I both use Cobras now. I love using them. Never had a problem myself. HOWEVER, I do know one person who's Cobra computer also passed PDC but went into gauge mode upon water entry and stayed there during a dive (a 20 minute night dive to 18' in a midwest reservoir). Battery removal and replacement got it up and running again, and it's owner reports it came back clean after the LDS sent it in. Said owner also reported not fully appreciating my comments at the time about it being posessed....

FWIW - I suspect the battery life remaining may be a factor in these instances. Not suggesting that rinsing is more or less important - just that all things being equal, electronic devices require lots of clean power to do their thing. And the dive environment is hostile enough to justify a new battery before hitting the final bar on the remaining power index.

Just my .02 psi(g) - dive safe!

How much do you dilute the vinegar? Are you using standard 'white' vinegar? IIRC, that's 3% acetic acid.

Thanks.

Sorry for the delayed reply. About 2 parts vinegar, 1 part water for 30 minutes

I bought my cobra when they first came out IIRC about 99 or 2000, runs fine lasts a long time and keeps good time. I dive about 90 -100 dives per year.

I'm on my third Cobra, Suunto has replaced 2, one with a battery issue, the other with a depth-sensor problem, similar to what you described. The latest one had yet another depth-sensor glitch, when I was in the Bahamas on a Blackbeard's cruise. I was wearing a backup on my wrist, and was at 11 feet, and the depth gauge showed I was at 0' fsw. I love the thing when it's working, but have had some issues. I know of several other folks who have had depth-sensor problems as well.

I have the same problem with my Cobra. I have around 100 dives on it. It doesn't register the depth anymore staying at zero. I always clean and maintain my equipment. I think it's a glitch in the unit. But because it's over 6 years old, Suunto will just give me a $200.00 credit towards a new computer. I don't want a new one, I want this one fixed!

hate to say it, but this issue is alive and well! I purchased my cobra about 2 years ago... have close to 100 dives on it and last year while diving for lobster off of catalina island, it quit showing depth. This did the r and r for the battery and it worked for about 10 minutes then began performing the depth tango... (jumped around showing anywhere from 10' - 400'+). I just emailed Suunto to see what they will do for me...
