TL,DR; Can the cobra 1 be used as a non-AI computer without attaching the hose or will it damage it?

I picked up a reg set for my wife and it came with a Cobra (1st gen) on a QD. We are diving over the holidays, but the regs wont be back from the LDS yet, so we will have to rent.
I noticed the manual says the Cobra "can" be set up for air integration. Does anyone know if it can be used without the air integration as-is (is the pressure sensor water/salt-proof)? if not, will it work if the QD fitting is replaced with a plug? Or will something in the Suunto programming cause issues if we get it wet without any air pressure on the system?
Not a big deal, but it will save me from having to rent a computer for a few days.

Thanks,
Michael.
