11 SBers (me, jenth, ligersandtions, xstephenx, Codyjp, sharkbait, SCUBA Q, ptyx, hsuan, Ramsy, orange_diver) met up early this past Saturday morning at North Crescent Bay to dive Deadman's Reef. Surf was a bit larger than we'd hoped, but nine of us braved it with scooters, and were rewarded with... a solid 5-8' of visibility.

Here's what those on the beach saw:

I had a great time.

We finished up with a really nice brunch over at The Cottage (joined by Vincent's wife and son).

My club was going to do a few night dives down at Aliso beach and have a bonfire. We ended up having a nice bonfire because waves were 5'+ and getting bigger when I showed up around 6:00.

It was manageable yesterday, but just so.

Night dives followed by a bonfire sounds like a great idea. Even if you couldn't get in the dives, a bonfire with friends is always a good time. Glad you had a nice night!

There were nice long lulls between the big sets....stupidly enough, we failed to wait for a nice long lull (the surf just kept coming and I think we all got impatient thinking there weren't going to be any more lulls...hah).

Deadman's is a great site....and even nicer with a scooter for the long haul out and back. Hopefully I'll dive it on a nice vis day sometime soon ;)

Yesterday's dive was a lot of fun. Brunch was a blast. Visability could have been better, but still an enjoyable dive.

Based on my raw video footage, it took us about 10 minutes to get to the reef on the scooters. That would be one long surface swim!

Quintin and I got lucky when we entered the water. Somehow, we managed to hit the beach right when there was a big lull in the surf. So, for us, entry was pretty easy.

Exiting the water was a little different story. Thanks to Jen H. and Leslie for the surface support. They were right at the water's edge when I surfaced and helped get my scooter out of the water. With the large surf during the exit, this was a very big help.

Here is video I shot from the dive yesterday. It is a little rough as this video was shot with my G11 mounted on top of my Sierra scooter. This was a first for me - as both the scooter and camera mount are new.

Great friends. Great diving. Looking forward to the next dive.

Despite not diving, I still had a GREAT time. Leslie was fun company out of the water and we had a nice walk in the perfect January SoCal weather.

Great video Chris and Walter. Even with the poor viz, the cameras are still able to capture quite a bit. We all definitely need to give that site a second shot...

Oh, and I don't think I've ever seen 9 scooters together in one dive! Stephen had mentioned that he saw divers left and right, above and below him...after watching Walter's video, I see what he means. :)

Thanks for posting the video, Walter. Having it mounted on the scooter frees you up to get some fun shots.

Definitely a big thanks to all those playing surface support!
