Other than being hobbies... golf and scuba have ZERO in common...
1. Scuba is exciting - golf is boring
2. Scuba you are active - golf is for lazy people
3. Scuba can give you an adrenaline rush - golf does not (Exception - hole in one)
4. The ocean is open to everyone - golf courses worth playing are not
5. Scuba you take cool pictures of things other people don't get to see - Golf you might take pictures of old people in cardigans
6. Scuba has sharks and fish and whales and sea lions and manta rays and... - golf has only one shark... and you never see him anymore
7. Scuba involves risk taking (and lots of it) - golf does too (little white balls might hit you in the head - now thats worth dying for)
8. Scuba divers can make a positive impact on future generations - golfers could too - if they closed up the golf courses and used the land for something more sensible
9. Scuba divers get to swim like fishes - golfers walk like, well humans (boring)
10. Many Scuba Divers could play golf is they wanted too - most golfers couldn't dive to save their life
Now on the slim chance that you are both a diver and a golfer, you probably golf more than you dive because it is more convenient than going diving or because it's what the boys do after a day at the office... If any of you out there actually work a day at the office... and then 4 or 5 of you go diving instead of golfing - please let me know!
What does all this have to do with cost? I can go play a round of golf at the local course for $36... + a bucket of balls and a rental set of clubs... all total about $75 - $100. I can do this if I want to be bored out of my mind walking after little white balls that I hit and then can't find for 30 minutes.... or I can pay $14 and hit the local quarry for a nice afternoon of diving... so you see... after you spend all your money on equipment... it's then cheaper than golf... and a lot more exciting.
