For my camera rig, I just get a hot-shoe adapter from eBay for $2.00 and stick the GoPro ontop of my 10 years old Sea & Sea DX2G hot-shoe slot.
To save the shi*y battery life of the GoPro, I removed the LCD display out of the GoPro & use the LCD display of the camera.
Now I can take pictures & video at the same time
