Sunscreen vs reef damage?

What's the scoop on sunscreens/sunblocks and damage to the reefs? We've heard several times on visits to Cozumel that there is concern over oily sunblocks causing water pollution. (personal note: those monster cruise ships look to me to be a much bigger problem!)
Presently I'm using a 'non-oily' block. It's designed for faces but works fine on arms, etc. Being a fair-skinned type, going without some type of sunblock is not an option.
If anyone has read a definitive (scientific type) article and can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated! Also, what are others using to avoid being fried to a crisp?

We have the same problem with our swimming pool. Oil based products clog the filter over time, as well as leave an oily film on the pool surface. We do not allow sun OILS in our pool. Sun lotions are water based and cause us no problems. We usually use water-proof lotions. I dont know however how any of these effect reefs.

You can get waterproof sunscreen lotions for your entire body.
