Sunray 2000x vs Sunray 1200

I have a Gates HF-S11 housing and I am looking for some lights. The difference in price for the Sunray 1200 is $2499 and the 2000x is $3799. Is the 2000x worth the extra $1300?

Sunray 1200 are discontinued, and the most logical replacement is Sola Video 1200 at $699 each. Two of those are a pretty great value, and mount very cleanly with a Gates system by virtue of their pod-less design.

The Sunray 2000s, which I now use, have 3 power settings of 2000, 1000, and 500. The 1000s had settings of 1000, 500, and 250. I find that the 2000 lumen setting is far too bright for many medium shots and all close ups. I have a set of perfectly good L & M HID lights whose lumen setting was 997 just sitting in a drawer unused. When I did use them I was very happy with them and had no complaints. I was just given the 2000s for a review and that is the only reason I switched. You should evaluate the type of filming you will be doing. More power is not the only factor. Heck, if someone can use a good set of HIDs, give me a PM

Just to add more fuel to the conversation, Light and Motion is coming out with 4000's in April. The 1200 new lights are pretty phenomenal. Gates is coming out with lights in April as well. The underwater technology is finally catching up with video...

I think Light and motion arnt making the sunrays any more. Their Video lights are not the Sola 1200's and a sola 4000 is coming out in march or so I belive. I have 2 of their Sola 1200 and they are bright. The only thing I have shot with them so far were a few cave dives a few weeks ago. They worked good in the total darkness. Just because a new model comes out and an older model is discontinued does not mean that you need to jump to the next new thing. If you have the 1000, or 2000s or HIDs, they all work just fine.
