This is just a FWIW:

I just got back from Negril, Jamaica this morning. I was diving with Sundivers.

As soon as I arrived at the shop, the employees informed me that Sundivers had been sold to a person who owns 3 or 4 other shops around Jamaica.

I met Craig, the new manager of the shop. He seems like a nice bloke (from England). I don't know what they have planned for the shop nor do I know who will be staying and who will be going.

It's been my experience that when new management steps in, approximately 10% of the staff will move on to other jobs.

Thanks for the info craracer! I had heard at Christmas time that it was up for sale but hadn't seen much since then. Have you heard what the former owners are going to do now?

I didn't hear anything about what the plans are. The shop could really use a face lift so I suspect they will start working on that.

They were talking about bringing in nitrox but, as you know that can be an expensive venture.

I saw the new owner but didn't have a conversation with him.

Wow!! I was looking forward to seeing Myron & Emilee this Friday! Any word on what they are doing?

From what I understand, Myron will remain at the shop and Emilee is moving back to the states to attend college. I don't know much about the details though.

Both of them should be around the shop when you arrive.

Hey, if you plan on eating out around Negril, here are my top favorite places:

1. Koyaba
1A. LTU
2. Sweet Spice
3. Jucy J
4. Chicken Lavish
5. Cosmo
6. Cool Spot

Koyaba and LTU are my favorites.

Good list of eats! I'll hit at least a couple of those as Kuyaba and Cosmo's are my favorites. You should try Xtabi and The Rockhouse sometime. A little more pricey but very good food with great sunsets.

I'll check with Myron on Saturday and get the scoop.

Hey Willar, would appreciate if you could post here what you learn while there, ok? Whether they are going to be looking for a DM or not, I have a good friend there in need of work. Also keep us up to date on the dive sites ok? Thanks, Sheila

Not much new info to add to what was stated above. Emilee has moved back to the states to go to college and Myron is working for the new owner. Sundivers is still operating pretty much as before.

Diving last week was pretty good. temp 82-84F with good viz until the end of the week when viz dropped off due to stuff in the water. Runoff from all the rain I guess. We saw 3-4 dolphins, one was a baby with mother, one day and another day a dolphin swam thru and around us for about 3 minutes. Very cool.

A new dive site for me was Mike's Reef. We stayed at 90-95 fsw for the dive on a wall-reef that is 70-100fsw. Half way down the wall there is a large mound reef going out deeper that starts about 80 and goes to 130+. Saw a very large ray here and the smaller fish life was extremely thick. Saw a school of 15+ 4-eye butterflyfish, which I had never seen before. Other sites included Treasure Reef (dolphin), Sands Club (shallow and deep), Bloody Bay Reef (2 sections), Arches, O'neil's Reef, The Cave, Joe's Reef, etc.

Dining at Kuyaba was outstanding. Jamaican Sytle Mahi Mahi, conch soup, crab cakes, & mountain pepper shrimp were all excellent, beer was very cold. Our group of 12 really enjoyed the dinner.

Thanks for the post Willar. Yours is the second post I have seen about Mike's Reef. And 34 dolphins - what luck! I am considering making my trip in August to Ochi to visit a good friend (rather than Negril). I have only dove that side of the island twice. Have you been there much? I would be interested in hearing your views.

What other dive outfitters did you dive with? I've never heard of some of the dive sites you listed??
