I wear a $10 boonie hat I picked up at my local Army/Navy Surplus store.

After having donated several hats a year to the Gulf gods for years on end, I finally got introduced to the Tilley and its nape strap. I've had it out in gales and haven't lost it yet.

Three cheers for the Tilly. I bought one and it is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to all.

rmannix:
Practice with it before going out on a dive boat.
You should be able to put it on with your eyes closed (right side up)
If should be free of possible entanglements (clappy hands, attached beer can holders, trout flies, propellers)
Is this for everyone or just the DIR crowd?

I also use a boonie hat. However, after looking at that Tilly hat (I love their stuff. I used mostly Tilly clothing on my last trek accross Europe) I may be making a change.

I learned recently from someone who is sun sensituve that for people like that, not any hat will do. Apparently some hats do little to block UV radiation, even though they look like they should.
