Sun Country appears to be beating Southwest on airfare to Cancun at the moment, however, their Scuba gear policy($75) and $30 for a checked bag and carryon, plus a drive and parking to DFW makes them more expensive.

My question is, if our scuba gear all fits in a standard air line legal suitcase and weighs less than 50#, is that fee mandatory? We carry our regulators in our carryon so they would not be included in any valuation issues if the gear was damaged.

I tried calling them, but the hold time was 45 minutes, and no chat option or email option on the website that I could find.

Thanks,
Jay

I do it all the time on SC.
Just don't expect compensation if lost or damaged.

Thanks! June flights are around $260 on SunC, $380ish on SW out of OKC (20 miles from the house) Even at $290 for luggage, its tempting, especially if I can park at a friends. How is SunC for leaving on time? We've never had an issue with SW, all kinds of issues with American, and I'm not going to try Spirit regardless of how cheap they may be. We will definitely be in Coz for Day of the Dead, but Im trying to squeeze another trip in if I can get airfare for 2 reasonable.

Thanks again,
Jay

I have used them 3 times from DFW and had no issues with gear. Looking to go late April / early May and am seeing $220 to CUN. They are showing flights to CZM this Summer starting at $389. If you pay for luggage online before the flight it is a little cheaper.

Last weekend I flew Sun Country, SFO->BOS, and paid for one check-in. I had a camera bag and daypack to carry on. (The daypack had one set of extra clothes, minus something big, like jeans.) Their regulations say that you can have one personal item that must fit underneath the seat in front of you. Both the camera bag and daypack are small, so it shouldn't have been a problem to put both underneath. Nope. One personal item, period. Had I been able to combine the two into a small duffle, it would have been fine.
