Butt or left hip dring

This. Or if you've got a buttplate setup for sidemounting gas bottles, on the rails.

Butt or left hip dring

This!

Often if I anticipate using something like a reel or strobe when I hit the bottom of the shot line, I'll clip it to a chest or crotch d ring

Last week I was introduced to a "butterfly" or double butt ring (mounts at the normal butt ring spot, but the two rings point left and right not straight down.) I really like this kind of butt ring. I found it very easy to access the Manta Jr. Reel (right side) and SMB (left side) hanging there. I jumped off the boat with the reel on a chest D-ring (so I didn't sit on it), and moved it to the butt ring at depth.

You probably have a right hip dring. If your SPG is on a left hip dring, why putting another item there, if right one is empty?
Right side should be free as to not obstruct the long hose. Left d ring is for trinkets.

+1, including moving it there after splashing....

just have to remember it's there and move it when you board and go to sit down
