Hello all....it is good to be back :)

Anyway I am planning a trip to Sharm El Sheikh (end of July)...

I need your help in order to select the resort/hotel to stay !

First of all I will travel alone on this one so I need an "alive" resort close to shops, clubs etc..

Then...money is not an issue so I want a very nice resort...

And...It will be nice to avoid daily transfers from the hotel to the diving center in order to dive...

Also I would appreciate your ideas about the diving center I should choose for my diving (if there is not a good one inside the hotel you will suggest)

Thanks,

Manogr

live aboard - no transfers there! You could probably do all the shops on yor shore day at the end of the week.

Just my 2yen

I will agree with that one whole-heartedly.

A liveaboard is the ideal place for the single traveller, no single supplements (not that that is a problem for you), added to that, it is a very sociable environment, with a wide range of characters on board.

The diving that you experience on a liveaboard outstrips the day diving too, as you can reach sites that are further afield such as the wrecks in Abo Nuchas (Excuse the spelling!!) and you stand the chance of being at the Thistlegorm before the crowds... always a good thing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, I hope you have a fantastic trip.

Hey there -

from what I gather the liveaboard diving in the red sea can get pretty marvellous. Point being that you get to places where only other liveaboards go to, so are unspoilt. Very near to Sharm are sites that have had 100 boats a day going there with 10 divers on, all bouncing off the coral....

I have been to Sharm el Sheikh twice now and the dives range in quality depending on where you gop. Generally the first day you go not so far away to a site that is not so good as they dont want to take a load of crap divers to a pristine site. But this is only fair I suppose and they get better after that.....(as long as you dont have a bunch of Uber Muppets on board with you)

The day-boat dives still get crowded though underwater.

We paid extra (a little) to go early to Jackson Reef one day and it was amazing. Totally empty. By the end of the dive there were a lot of folks turning up.

This sounds like I am being negative - I really enjoyed all my diving in Sharm. The "special trips" to Ras Mohammed are great sites, and teh Thistlegorm is spectacular - with or without the twenty other boats.

Anyway I did all my diving there through Red Sea College, which is not too expensive and were always nice to me.

HOTEL :--

Second time I went though I made sure to stay at the CAMEL HOTEL.

This is Right in the middle of the town, the liveliest bar is part of the hotel, it has a great indian restaurant in it, and the rooms were lovely.

Camel Hotel (they have dive centre too to make it really easy, though Red Sea college is only 1 minute walk.)

The big resorts are more expensive, further away, and just not so fun friendly for someone on their own

cheers.

Your profile doesn't specify but my assumption is that you are male?

If I am wrong and you are a female, I definitely would recommend you go for a liveaboard or if not, go to Dahab instead; it's a lot more laid back and suited for solo divers. Having visited Sharm with other women and received harassment from shopkeepers, waiters and gun-toting soldiers, I would not advise a lone female to hang round Sharm.

But male or female, your best sites underwater would be away from shore and out. If you can get out as far as the Brothers, it would be nice.
