Hi all,
Scubaboard being the wonderful resource that it is, I would like to ask a non diving question.
My girlfriend and I are looking to get away for the weekend. We love crabs and have a 17ft boat. We are looking for some place on the water (either bay or river) where we could stay at a place with a dock, go swimming and boating and eat crabs.

As an example, something like this:
http://www.timsrivershore.com\

Can anyone suggest something?
By the way. if there is a dive to be done near by, that would not be the worst thing in the universe.
Thanks, Stas

Home - Kentmorr Restaurant This reasturant is on the East side of the Chesapeake on Kent Island. The owner is a great guy and a diver.

http://www.theredroost.com/menu4.PDF Come up the Wicomico River to the Red Roost. This also is an excllent place and if you would like some company here send a PM and I can get out there. After dinner you can head up the river to Salisbury which has a small marina. There is a Dock Bar, Brew River next to the slips.

Crisfeild Maryland is very nice also as is St Michaels.

Diving near by would be the Chesapeake. Most of the local rivers are black water mucky no vis dives. There are several quarrys nearby but would need a vehicle.

How about for regular swimming? Hos is the water either in the bay or by Kent Island? Clean/warm?

Dont swim in the Wicomico near Salisbury. The water isnt to good up this way. If You were to come to the Red Roost you can dock up and they will pick you up and take you to the reasturant in a golf cart type vehicle. You could then Sail around the point towards Cedar Hill Park on Roaring Point on the Nanticoke River. The Swimming there is decent. I was snorkling there last week but you cant see much.
As for the Chesapeake I was diving near Calvert Cliffs State Park and had good vis. We found some fossils and Sharks Teeth there. Some one else living on or near the Chesapeake Bay hopefully will join in and give better info than I can.

Don't know about where dock to stay overnight but a good place to eat is Harris' Crab House on Kent Narrows.

A lot of people will move into the creeks above Annapolis on the Severn River and tie up to a buoy that the Naval Acadamy uses to protect their smaller boats during severe weather. My parents live on Luce Creek (3rd creek on the west side above the Acadamy) and there are 7 or 8 there and on most weekends 4 or 5 boats will come in and tie up for the weekend.

Thanks for all the advise.
I looked at kent island and it seems very nice. Can one swim around there?
Thanks, Stas

Hi,
can someone tell me about swimming in Chesapeake bay (specificaly kent island). Is the water clean?
Thanks, Stas

Dont know much about swimming in the bay, but I have been swimming near Tilgman Island and I believe there is oyster diving in the winter around Kent Island.

A lot of people I know boat and swim in the Chester River, which is the north side of Kent Narrows/Kent Island. No problems so far.
