Suggestions for clip-on points in pockets with no d-rings

The pockets on my SP LiteHawk have no d-rings, or other attachment points, in them. Does anyone have any suggestions for adding something to clip items onto, short of sewing d-rings into the pockets? Here’s a picture in case it helps.

What are you hoping to clip? (small or large, heavy or light, etc.)

I've got one from my son's LiteHawk in front of me - Here are my thoughts ...

[Edit - this is assuming you want to clip off the items stowed in the pocket. I modified my OMS pocket this way]

Paracord is probably the easiest and lowest cost if you don't want to install actual D-rings or similar.

If you are willing to modify the pocket, you could punch/melt holes just big enough to pass the paracord through below, but near, the top edge (where the back material is doubled up -for strength) at the left and right. Then run the paracord "in the pocket and knot it in the back on both ends to keep it from pulling through. You can create a clip loop that you can pull out to clip and un-clip, but easy to stuff back in the pocket with your items.

If you want to "try-before-you-buy" or are hesitant to put holes in the pocket, tie a loop of paracord around the pocket, passing through the waist-belt slot on the back.

[Edit - If you are looking for an external clip-off point, just put a D-Ring on the waist belt - 2 mintutes, Easy Peasy]

No holes, not even for drainage.

Mainly my backup computer, a signal mirror and a very small torch. The pockets aren’t very large, big enough for a 2# weight. I can’t replace them with a larger pocket, though, as they allow me to use Hog weight pockets when diving cold water.

@-JD- , I like this. Yes, I am wanting to stow inside the pockets. It would seem that a heated nail set would work well, giving a large enough hole without making it too big.

My first thought was paracord or small shock cord loop passed through a drain grommet; that's what I did on my non-Litehawk pockets.

But not having grommets or drain holes.... well, I guess that means a modification is likely necessary. If you're ok with that, I think -JD- is spot on. If you'd like, you can find a brass grommet of suitable size and melt a hole to accommodate and install a grommet.

I don't have a Litehawk, are the pockets replaceable if you "oops" it?

I don’t know if I could find direct replacements, but they are mounted on the waist belt and removable so I could probably replace them with some other slide on pocket.

I removed them from my son's and put my Zeagle pull-dump weight pockets in their place for weight integration. Then picked up a medium zipppered pocket for the "stuff" and mounted it just forward.

The LiteHawk pockets are just held on by passing the waist-belt through the loop on the pocket, between two loops on the hip pads. Trivial, other than R&R on the buckle.


They are nice pockets, just small. Though, IIRC, you can stuff a 4 or 5# hard weight in there, maybe a couple 3s.

Ah, I see. In that case, RIHappyDiver, maybe remove the pockets and make your hole in the backside of the pocket. That way it would be hidden from view (not that it matters, unless "oops!") and you're not altering the aesthetic of the BC.

I bet other Litehawk divers would be so envious when you show them your new fancy "secure pocket" solution!

Either way, I dig what you're trying to achieve. I am a Gear Tinkerer also

Yeah, they will hold a hard 5#. My i300 fits just right with my spare car key attached. It’s really the band that takes up so much room. Looking forward to trying it out. Worst case scenario, I buy some pockets with d-rings already attached.
