Hi, New England Lobsta Divahs,

Having a family gathering in Cape Cod, probably in the Mashpee/Falmouth area of the Cape, around the Labor Day weekend.

I'm looking for suggestions about local dive sites and dive operators in the area? None of my family members dive so it's just me, myself and I looking for a dive site or wreck to visit and to escape the family during a portion of my time on the Cape. :D

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike Walls shop, The Dive Locker in Hyannis runs charters all over the Cape. It's a nice boat, even if it's a little crowded when full, and the skipper is a really nice guy. We've dove with them a few times and been pleased.

Nantucket Sound will be the warmest. Once you turn the corrner at Monomoy or go into the Bay it can get real cold quickly.

Also, as most of the area is sand, the diving tends to be on wrecks.

Hi. You may remember meeting me at the lighting of the Nubble dive this year. I will likely be on the Cape that weekend as my in-laws have a place in Dennis Port not far from where you'll be. There are a couple good shore dives near by. Garbage Beach at Woods Hole and Sandwich Town Beach. That time of year, the water is very warm and in high 60s/low 70s. Both are awesome night dives.

Mike Falcone (MFalco) from this board turned me onto these two sites. He's in the Woods hole area and is always able to join me.

The nearest dive shop to you would be Aqua Center near the sandwich marina. Aqua Center Scuba Diving In Hyannis is Mike Wall's dive Locker and there is also Cape Cod Sea Sports. Mike Walls operates has a Dive boat running charters. Most of the dives are pretty challenging due to currents and he requires adv. cert.

If the seas are pounding and conditions are bad, there are fresh water ponds. A popular one near Hyannis is Hathaway Pond. (great 2nd dive to rinse gear) There is an old wooden fishing boat wreck. The pond is stocked with fish so you'll see fresh water trout, bass, eels.

Happy to have you join me. PM me with your contact info as approach Labor Day weekend.

Paulthenurse, Gilldiver and Luis - Many thanks for your input, I'm now excited about the family gathering knowing I'll have some good dives in store. I've been diving in 44 - 48 degree water temps in a local quarry wearing a 7mm wetsuit so any temps in the 60's & 70's is tropical for me. :D

Luis - Of course I remember you. Ken and your dive group were so kind to me and my friends when we attended the Christmas tree lighting. I appreciate the offer to dive with you and your friend. I will PM you when I have the details. I'm sooooooo excited!!!!!!!!

:grouphug: to y'all for making my day.
