I became a believer in the DAN DSMB with radar reflective material after doing some testing in Monterey Bay. We dropped the inflated buoy off with a weight to keep it upright and motored way. We could still see it on Radar when we gave up at 5 miles.
Granted, it is taller at 6' than you asked for and bulkier because of the Radar and SOLAS tape on both sides increases the roll diameter. I decided it was well worth the extra bulk after our good friend northernone was lost at sea.
