Exellent article on DIR referenced above; the truth will set you free (motto of the U. of Texas, by the way):

Unfortunately its written by someone that doesn't understand DIR...so his "de-bunking" can only convince other people that know nothing about DIR.

But you always seem to think that "DIR's" believe that is the only way to dive. Maybe some actually believe that, but others understand there is more ways than 1 to skin a cat, but have chosen one way over the other.

You're so right about some people being totally opposed to any way of diving different from theirs Jeff. And I mean on both sides. I find the experienced divers choose the way THEY want to dive and do it, without wasting time coming up with reasons that other divers are stupid for not following their example.

It helps keep the amusement factor high on internet discussion boards anyways (At least for me )

They tend to avoid internet discussion boards altogether. The last thing they need is the newly DIR-f'd and the anti DIR crowd giving them lectures. :)

I would add my recommendation for the book "Diving Physiology in Plain English" by Jolie Bookspan.
I just checked Amazon. Apparently, this book is currently out of print.

Okay, darn it, I know this one is available: Bennett and Elliot's Diving Medicine and Physiology (5th), from the same source. It is the new one in print. A little harder to read for one not trained in some level of medicine, but still a great resource.

Nothing really, I just usually click it off if I am talking to staff members, and forgot we were on the main board! :11doh: :D
