G'day,

Thought I should ask because I am looking to buy a camper trailer and my criteria:

easy to tow
attractive look and great quality
functional
and affordable

I searched online and found this:
Camper Trailer - Full-Off Road Deluxe Camper Trailer with 25m2 Tent

Any ideas or suggestions are really appreciated and also if you guys have any ideas or experience with insurance for the trailer, I would really appreciate that too so that I know what I need and what I need to budget for.

Cheers

I'm guessing you are not in the US. I am in the US and have a coleman pop-up trailer. The insurance is covered under the car insurance as long as it is being towed. I also purchased additional insurance in case of theft, fire, tree falling on it etc and that was only $65 for the year.

Teardrop trailers are my favorite. If you didn't need the full kitchen area that could be a great place for scuba equipment. You could even hang your suit from the pop up door.

Not cheap but lite!
LivinLite All Aluminum Ultra Light Campers, Ultralight Campers, Lightweight Campers, Ultra-Lightweight Campers

Have you thought about a powered RV? What are you towing with? Either way people are going to be getting rid of used ones rapidly as winter approaches.

My preference is to have solid walls with no cloth...and a heater. Of course that might vary by where you live and A/C could be the priority. Otherwise a tent works just fine, and you could stay in a lot of hotels for the cost of a trailer. Towing a trailer sucks (Says the guy who tows a boat). Which brings up another option, buy a boat with a cabin. My friends sleep in their C-Dory all the time, but it requires a 3/4 ton truck at the least.

This is what I have. I got it used 2 years ago for $1700. https://plus.google.com/photos/109957120829746953190/albums/5485012530672584401?banner=pwa
It has a 3 burner stove inside, 2 burner outside, sink, electric lights, small electric fans, 120 VAC outlets, propane furnace, refrigerator. The fridge is a 3 way that runs on propane, 12v or 120v. It has a deep cycle battery on the tongue so you can run the lights and fridge. There is a 10 gallon water tank underneath or you can hook up to water and electric at a campsite.

It's been great. The only thing I did as preventive maintenance was replace the wheels/tires and wheel bearings. That was about $300.

Towing weight fully loaded with gear is around 2500lbs.

My old Harbor Freight 4'X8' utility trailer needed to be re-built. I'm in the process of converting it into a dual-purpose utility/camper. The rear section will be removable, as well as the top, which will be hinged at the front. Decent quarries are 2½ hours away, and have camping facilities, so a little camper will work just fine. I'll be towing it with a 2010 Dakota, rated for 7,200 lbs, so no problem there.

Thoughts appreciated. Thanks all.

Yes, I’m not residing in US but Queensland, Australia.
That’s cheap... Insurance for $65/year is not bad plus it goes with your car insurance.

It’s always hot down here. We get sunshine almost every day but unfortunately I don’t tow a boat.
I don’t have one.

It’s only $1700 for the cost of a trailer? No way. Why you guys in the US always get things for less? Er maybe my computations aren’t correct.

I bought it used. I got it in 2010 it is a 2001 model. I watched the classifieds for a long time. The blue book value is about $1800 but most of the ads people are trying to get. $3000 or more because they overvalue. I found a realistic person and got a good deal.

I much prefer towing a 5th wheel to a bumper pull. I even converted my goose-neck horse trailer to a 5th wheel because they haul smoother and are easier to hook up. I'm sure the horses appreciate the smoother ride. We sure do.
As far as light and easy to pull-most important is tongue weight. Second most important is knowing what your vehicle can haul and not getting anywhere close to overloading it, including dive gear and passengers.
