"And now for something completely different..."

If you read my post last week extolling the virtues of a rigorous OW course, you will find a stark contrast in this video of an OW course taught by a different instructor from last week's post.

Same quarry. Same water. Different instructor. I would anticipate a different result.

Ironically, you will see a diver trained by the aforementioned "rigorous" instructor cruising through the background. (Thanks to Jeremiah Hupka for the video...)

I can only say this.
I thought previous to this that diving in fresh water was boring.
Now I can say with absolutely certainty that watching a video of people diving in fresh water is much more boring.
Apologies to all land locked divers.

Which one was the instructor and which one the student? Looked equal to me. Sorry to say.

I assume the DM is the one kneeling... praying he can get a job at another shop.

Nice viz. Not sure what I just watched though...

I wish I had on video a rescue assessment that I watched someone do. This guy didn't drop weights, didn't inflate BC, wasn't doing breaths, was taking his own gear off and struggling outrageously. The instructor (I actually later heard she was an MI or CD), reminded him to give breaths as he was halfway to the egress (started about 50 feet away). He says, "What?" and dunks the 'victim's' head underwater. She says it again and he says, "oh yeah". Finally starts ventilating. Gets to the egress (stairs) but has failed to remove any gear. Several other students help them both out of the water. It should have been an INSTANT FAIL. The next words out of the instructor's mouth were, "everyone give him a hand and congratulations on becoming a rescue diver!!!". He nearly killed the guy playing victim. It was ridiculous.

If there is one way to make me remember the name of your shop, a stunt like that is it.

I'm pretty sure it was "Removal and replacement of BCD while standing in water too deep to stand."

Wow, I can't imagine what would happen if my Instructor who trained me watched me perform before a class like that. He might perform Hari-cari (however it is spelled) if he had a large enough dive knife. One thing I can say is you would never have trouble picking me out from the students, for I tend to remain neutrally buoyant while teaching.
