Okay, I've done lots of reading here and searching.

I feel stupid for even asking, but what does "SAC" stand for?:06:

I know, I know, let the bashing begin...but, I've seen this in many different threads with no explaination. Can someone help a brother out?:D

Surface Air Consumption.

How much air you are consuming during your dive corrected to the amount of air it would be at the surface NOT your actual rate of gas consumed at depth. It is a really good benchmark because you can track it from dive to dive.

Not a stupid question. If you don't know, how else are you going to find out unless you ask? Searching on ScubaBoard can be tough for new members.

There's also -- RMV - respiratory volume minute

BTW, there are formulas for figuring this stuff out based on depth and PSI used in your tank. The website above will even do it for you.

Thanks guys. Searching the forums is really nothing new to me....I'm a Moderator over at my truck site for the last year. And I did search....just came up dry. LOL

Thanks again...off to read some more!

Well, if it helps, a good SAC rate is under .5 (meaning half a cubic foot of air per minute at the surface).

I think there's some people around here in the low .4's...

Me? I'm like .8 - I admit it, I suck air like a emphasemic hog.

D.

You probably came up dry because of a filter in the search feature that will not allow a three charactor search.
Very popular terms can sometimes fall into this creavas.
So sometimes when a new member asks a question about something that will not return any search hits and they get a smart A55 responce about using the search feature I feel like reaching into my monitor and grabbing the throat of said responder and doing a Louise Woodward on them. (yeah ...that is right ...the search you will be doing is called GOOGLE).

not to hijack the thread or anything, but if we are on the topic of acronyms...what on earth is fsw? (I think that was it). I see it all the time, and i believe it is associated with depth (I think?)...it's always written as "90fsw" or whatever.
