Hey guys,
I'm studying for my PADI Divemaster at the moment (boy is there a lot of reading!) - Which chapters match up to which tests? (i.e. is Chapter 1 in the Divemaster Manual the first test?) Also, is the test multiple choice like the other ones I've taken, or do you have to fill in the blanks like on knowledge reviews? I've got about 400 dives under my belt, and just turned 18, so I decided it was time to go pro! Thanks for your help in advance!
Alex

Hey elmo dont try to study just the stuff for the test thats a setup for disaster you will pass the test but be lacking the knowledge. Just go ahead and read up on all of it, I know it seems like a ton, but overall its definently worth it in the end.

I'm pretty sure there's a 1-to-1 correspondence -- you can actually take a quiz/test after each chapter (we did them all at one swoop).
Read that Encyclopedia of Diving -- you really do need to understand the physics and physiology that are covered in it.
Have fun -- it's a cool thing, hope you enjoy becoming a DM, the extra technical material you now have to learn should be useful going forward.

The DM tests are mostly multiple choice, but some chapters have a few fill in the blank questions as well. (i.e. physics, wheel RDP) Good luck.

Too long ago now for me to remember any of the specifics but it is a lot of material. There were 3 - 4 other DM candidates coming up for the exam at the same time I did mine in '91. We got together a lot during those final weeks and fired questions back and forth on all topics. That seemed to help me a lot personally.

I just finished my Divemaster course this past month - there is a test for each section in the Diving knowledge workbook. You will need to complete the workbook and read each corresponding section in the Encyclopedia as well as read the Divemaster manual. There are questions from the Encyclopedia that are not covered in either the workbook or the manual.

Good luck:)

The name of the test will inform your answer when you compare it to the chapters in the DM manual, the Encyclopedia, and the Workbook.

Wow! Thanks for all the information guys, I didn't expect 6 posts in that short an amount of time! So from what Hoyden said, I should do all the knowledge reviews from the DM manual, and then study/do the stuff in the Workbook for the tests, correct? From that I would infer that I should read the manual once or twice, and the Encylopedia + Workbook considerably more, as thats whats on the test...

Yupper -- a lot of larnin to do :)
