oh, we did look at the Plaza place, but apparently it is only scheduled to re-open the week before we go, so just not worth the risk i don't think.

hey everyone,

thanks for your advice - i've found a good travel agent and the Hotel Cozumel (as i think it's called this month) seems to suit most of our needs.

Final question: all-inclusive or not? From the restaurants listed on Gordon's site (which all sound awesome) I am tempted to go not. Contrary opinions welcome!

Bring on January 4th!!!

Nick

IMO (and you probably know already that I feel this way), there is no reason to go AI on Cozumel unless you are staying so far out of town that you'd have a long and expensive cab ride to go to dinner. For me, that's an excellent reason to stay close to town.

Hey Gordon...I hear ya...but here's my side of the story...
We always go for 2 weeks...eating out for 2 weeks can get expensive. A couple of the southern resorts are beautiful and the food is good. After a day of diving and a beer (or 2) I can barely drag my rear to the buffet..never mind out to a restaurant (OK..I'm not 20 any more!!..or 30 or 40 !!) And, as I said, at the right resort, the food is very good. We always manage to get into town for a couple of meals anyway plus some touristing and shopping. When the PLG goes AI is might be an interesting alternative for us. Just my .02.

thanks guys. i think it will be better for us to be closer to town so the non / less-enthusiastic divers have more to do. i am also more worried that my friends potentially moan about the bad quality of AI food than about how $$$ the restaurants are. i reckon we're getting a good deal on the accommodation so they should have money in the back pocket for food & beer.

what a friendly messageboard i must say. if anyone ever needs info on diving the red sea please drop me a line, that's my local specialty (nearest decent warm water diving from london!)

cheers, nick

If you are close enough to town to walk around, you can eat very economically if you try. Face it, the locals don't eat at Prima's and La Mission every day either. They cook at home, or they get food at any of the more economical local eateries. I found some great eats at very reasonable prices by just asking some locals and by walking a few blocks further inland.

Of course if it is a $10 cab ride each way, then even an economical meal becomes to pricey for every day.

Just a few random thoughts,

Wristshot
