Just heard on King5 that an 18yo diver is missing from a dive class at Rosario Beach. The Coast Guard and other search and rescue were on site. I could not find any reference to the story on their site for further detail. Prayers for a positive outcome.

Diver, 19, missing near Whidbey Island

The Coast Guard is searching for a young woman missing Monday afternoon after diving near Whidbey Island.

The woman, 19, was with two men off Rosario Beach on the Northwest side of Whidbey Island when she didn't return to the surface about 2 p.m., according to a Coast Guard spokesman.

Her friends called Skagit County Fire Rescue, and the Coast Guard launched a rescue helicopter from Port Angeles and three rescue boats to search for her. A rescue helicopter from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station also helped the Coast Guard.

The search off Whidbey Island took place as word came that the recovery effort for two men missing on the Green River may not resume Tuesday because of high waters.

A 34-year-old Federal Way man disappeared Saturday after the inflatable raft he was in overturned. In a separate accident Saturday, a 45-year-old Seattle man submerged in his kayak and failed to reappear downstream from Kanasket Palmer State Park.

The Federal Way man was not wearing a life jacket -- on a day of record temperatures and at least nine water rescues in King County. Both missing men are presumed dead, a King County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. -- The Coast Guard is searching for a Walla Walla University diving student who is missing at Rosario Beach Near Whidbey Island.

The Coast Guard said Skagit County Fire Rescue received a call just before 2 p.m. about a female diver off Rosario Beach on the Northwest side of Whidbey Island who had failed to return to the surface.

Shari Booth was with 11 other diving students on a field trip from the university when she failed to surface. Booth is part of an advanced scuba diving class at the university's Rosario Beach Marine Lab.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue helicopter crew from Port Angeles, two 33-foot rescue boat crews from Bellingham and a Coast Guard Auxiliary rescue boat crew to search for Booth. A rescue helicopter crew from Navy Air Station Whidbey Island also launched to assist in the search along with a dive team.

The water temperature in the area is in the high 40s to the low 50s and currents can be strong. Search crews planned on remaining out until dark if the water conditions allowed.

Booth is a marine biology student at the university.
