No news as to what the cause of death was yet, but given weather conditions here, which were blustery enough at 27 mph to bring down some large trees near me. And sea temperature fairly chilly at 8c/46 f. It was an interesting day to choose to do a sea dive by the breakwaters in devon.

We cancelled our weekend sea diving due to winds gusting 70mph and torrential rain so seems a bit bizzare people decided to shore dive unless the weather was markedly different down south.

The actual weather from the nearest Met Office Weather Station to the incident was as follows.

Saturday 25 March, 2006 16:00 GMT

Plymouth
Direction SW
Wind Speed 20 Knots
Gusts 26 Knots (30 Mph)
Visibility 0.6 Km
Temp 9 c
Pressure 1001 Mb
Trend Rising
Conditions Rain/Fog

Conditions were not much different throughout the afternoon.

Doesnt really mean much unless you know what direction the site was facing, was it exposed and so on.

Surprised the water is that warm (if thats not an air temp reading).

I was driving down to Salisbury on Saturday and the weather was indeed pretty bad down that way with heavy rain and a strong blustery wind. However, as the wind was a south-westerly, Brixham harbour would have been well sheltered:

Also, Diver Magazine's website says that the dive area is only 10m deep:
Diver Magazine story
which at first sounds quite shallow, but just serves to remind me especially that there's no such thing as a risk-free dive.
