Hi, new to diving and looking for a strobe for a Pt-019 housing I got for my C-5000 camera. I was hoping to stay below a budget of about $300 if possible. Any suggestions on which strobes to consider and features to look for would be appreciated.

Thanks

I bought a Sealife 960D. I am still learning the setup, but I have a C-5000 and a PT-019 as well.

Let me know how that works for you. I'm looking at getting the strobe by May so I have a bit of time to practice before a dive trip in June. I have been looking at the Sealife 960 or 960D, Bonica Neon-XP, Sunpak G-flash, and Fantasea Nano.

Does the Sealife allow you to add other arms to extend the light further away from the camera? The Sealife seems closer to the lens than some other models, and I was wondering if backscatter is an issue..

You'll want the 960d instead of the 960...it has pre-flash settings. You can add diffusers to the strobe rather inexpensively. I was looking at the Sunpak but after searching on this site, found where there are problems with them flooding at the battery compartment. I got my 960d last week off ebay for $250 so I haven't used it yet, I'm in Memphis for a couple of more days. I let you know how it works. I have an Oly 580 with PT021 housing.
