just getting into underwater photography, we have a canon rebel xti with a ikelite housing. i would like to get a strobe but have no idea what i need. do not want to spend 1000$ but would like to add some lite down there while i am taking photos. any thoughts.

Since you are using an Ike housing, it would make sense to use an Ike strobe to take advantage of the housings TTL. You can shoot fish portraits down to macro with a single strobe. It is my opinion that you need 2 strobes for most wide angle.
