Hi,

We have an oly c-740 uz with a pt-018 housing. I'm wondering if any of you can recommend a strobe. If I understand things correctly, I would need a "slave" strobe.

I don't know if I'll actually get one or not as cost is a factor. To be honest, if the choice is buy a strobe or a plane ticket to GCM, the strobe is not going to win.

Thanks in advance.

You can compare strobes on the Strobe Finder to narrow the field a little bit.

Strobes are a big spend up front, but the upside is that a good strobe will last for many years without having to be replaced or upgraded - so when you decide to change cameras, it should move with you.

info@naturephoto.co.jp is the email for Yuzo in Japan, he has very good prices on Inon strobes and is great to deal with.

You can also have a look in the Pink Link in my signature as there is a compilation of strobe information and links there.

Have a nice trip---the cost of a decent strobe starts around $500. You are correct, you will need a slave.

Guess we'll see what Santa thinks.

Thanks to all.

I have been using the INON 180D for a couple of years now and I am very pleased with it. I use an optical cable without any problems. Another factor to consider is the base and arm that hold the strobe. I got an Ultralight anodized aluminum base and arm. It is very flexible, wears like iron, and has given me no problems.

As others have said, UW strobes are expensive but why go to the expense of diving with a camera just to take blue, bad pictures?
