Sorry for asking what I know is probably a stupid question....................I have Oly 5050 and Ike 125.......purchased new ten months ago. I have only used it diving six times. It ain't working, and being that I'm the type that can't even change a lightbulb I figured I'd bring it down to B&H. Is there anything someone might suggest I try before heading off to the bowels of Manhattan.
Oh..........the light works in test mode, the preset camera settings had all gone back to the default from lack of use and I found myself in beautiful San Andreas Island with no flashy thing...............Many thanks...........all the best

1. What housing?
2. Do you have any of Ike's sensors connected to the strobe? Manual EV controller or TTL slave sensor?
3. How are you firing the strobe in sync: using a sync cord or sensor?

The #4100.5 Wireless TTL Sensor and DS-125 model SubStrobe. Housing is the PT 015. When I bought this gear I just hooked it up and took great pictures. Then went off two weeks ago...........nada. Unfortunately, as I said earlier, I'm all thumbs, appreciate your attempts to help...........

I just had a similar problem with my strobe, SeaLife Reefmaster DC300, that would not fire just before I left to Coz last week. I sent it to the Company to see what the problem was. I was told Friday that they are replacing it and sending me a new one. You might want to just send it back. Will B&H replace it or are you getting the run around from them?

Since it is working in test mode, that woulld make me think it's a sensor - it's detecting too much light and not firing. Have you tried covering the sensors? Trust me, I know nothing about this stuff and am as handy as you but try that and see. Also see what B&H will do. Ask them if you ship it back to them, did you get it recently?, and will they replace it. The next step is shipping it back to the company that mfg it. You could try calling the company's tech support and see what they say?

First thing first we need to make sure your camera and strobes are setup properly. You say you haven't used the camera for a while and it has 'forgotten' its settings so it might be a good place to start.

1. Camera setup. Make sure the camera's flash is firing:
  • Make sure that 'All Reset' is OFF in the menu [OK > Mode Menu > Setup tab > All Reset > Off]
  • Select Manual shooting mode from the mode dial
  • As a starter, set the Shutter speed to 1/125s and Aperture F/5.6
  • Make sure your camera is not in Drive (Burst) mode [OK > Mode Menu > Camera tab > Drive > Single frame, page 74, PDF manual]
  • Make sure the Flash menu is set to 'Int+Ext' [OK > Mode Menu > Camera tab > Flash > Int+Ext]
  • Make sure the camera is not in Super Macro (S+flower symbol) mode [hold the AF/Macro/MF button on the top left of the camera down and select AF or Macro (flower) ]
  • Make sure the camera's flash is set to always fire [hold the Flash (:lightning) button on the top left of the camera down and turn the jog wheel to select 'Slow']
Now take a picture, you should see the camera's flash fire.

2. DS-125 setup:
  • Make sure the TTL sensor is connected properly to the strobe
  • Make sure the DS-125s mode dial is set to 'TTL'
  • Switch the DS-125 on and you should hear it 'whine' as it charges. The middle LED should come on when it is ready
  • Mount the sensor so it is aimed at and a little behind the camera's flash
Now take a picture, you should see both the camera's flash and the strobe fire in sync.

HTH

Many thanks for your help folks................no joy....tried everything..........even went to B & H today and bought another sensor........I'll just have to send it back to Ikelite..............which the guy in B & H tells me can take several months........could this be true..?
Thanks again.................

Sorry to hear you couldn't get it to work.

Contact Ikelite directly. Their service is excellent.
