As per title, just about to purchase a sea and sea ys-03 ttl strobe for my Olympus tg-3 and pt-056 housing. Would this be a good choice for a beginner? I believe the ttl doesn't pair well with some cameras?

It is basically the same as the Olympus own UFL-3 flash which I guess is OEMed from Sea& Sea

Oh just realized there is no manual control on the sea & sea but on the UFL-3. The UFL-3's sync works with Olympus' RC control system so I guess for non Olympus cameras it can only be manual. I bought the whole set (TG-3, PT-056 and UFL-3) from Olympus during a dive show for my girl friend and they work together quite well, particularly for macro.

Here's the video from my trip with the TG-3. All photos were from the TG-3 while some video was from my Sony RX100 (which was flooded on the 2nd day). The thresher sharks video was all from Sony as the TG-3 did not perform well with low light and video is not really its strength. However the nudi shots and video were quite good. And the aerial video was done with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus. Enjoyed it very much!!

Thanks I really enjoyed the video very professional results. was any lighting used in the nudi shots or video? I have a 2500 lumen tovatec video light that should help with low light video and the sea and sea ys-03 was going to be for photo's

Yes I have an iTorch Pro 6 video light. 2500 lumen is enough for most situations.
