Help!!... I just got an Olympus Stylus 300 with PT016 housing and I need some info regarding strobes. What are my options? What are the best strobes and configurations? Any advice is appreciated...

Welcome to the money pit!

To get an idea of your options, do a little looking around the Underwater Photo sections on this board as there have been quite a few divers looking for new strobes lately.

You can also get an idea of what features you want and what your options are at www.digitaldiver.net -> strobe finder.

I love the Inons and Ikelite has some fabulous offerings, too. This is not an area you will get out of with your wallet happy, so be warned :)

You will probably read thing to the contrary, but I just bought a Sunpak G-flash ($180) for my recent trip to Maui and I really liked it. If you use anything less than half power the strobe is recharged and ready to go again before your camera is. For the price, I couldn't pass it up. I'm still learning to use it so I'm sure picture quality could improve (I find it rather difficult to try and frame the shot, adjust the strobe power, and get the shot before the critter swims off). You might give it a look, or not.

I have an Oly Stylus 400 and a Sea and Sea DX YS 90 DX strobe. Cathy Church recommended this outfit. I paid around $550 for the strobe. Yes, it was a Christmas present and I had to have it. It connects to the camera with a fiber optic cable and is set off by the camera's flash. I set the strobe to "pre flash" and it fires everytime. I manually set the dial for strength (still learning this part).

I love this outfit. It's compact and I can handle the camera and the strobe with one hand.

What about the YS25DX?? Any others? Whats a fair price for a used unit?
