I have an Olympus SP-350 camera with a PT-030 housing and need to get a strobe & arm assembly. A friend recommended the Sea & Sea YS-27DX strobe. Any suggestions? Also, is there anything special that I need to interface the strobe light to the camera--is that part of the strobe itself or do I need to purchase an additional item?

Do your research prior to purchasing a strobe. You will need a way to "fire" the strobe. I have the same camera/housing and went with the Ikelite DS51 and manual controller - The manual controller reads the internal flash and fires the strobe.

There is also a bulkhead converter available that will allow you to hook up to the cameras hot shoe and use TTL which is a consideration - Heinrichs/weikamp is the name - you can search here.

Do a search for SP350 and you will get tons of info here.

Cant wait for Bonaire to hopefully get some printable photos....

I have an Inon D-2000 that I use with my Olympus SP-350 and I like it a lot. The Inon flash is triggered by the camera's flash using a fiber optic cable which plugs right into the Olympus PT-30 housing. Since the flash works off the camera's light meter, I generally get pretty good results. I have other, shall we say, issues with my setup, but the flash isn't one of them. It works like a champ.

I have the same setup as maui54. I'm pretty happy with it and haven't had any problems either. I bought a package with the strobe, arms, trays etc. from Reef Photo.

Before I bought a strobe I spent a long of time reading as many of these threads on strobes as I could. There was a lot to digest needless to say. I read about a number of people having problems with specific cameras interfacing with certain brands & models of strobes (housings play a role also).

My conclusion was very few people were having problems with the Inon strobes, at least with the SP-350, so I went with them and I'm glad I did. I got the same setup for my wife after spending 6 months of use with my camera/strobe system, that's how much we like it.

Good luck,

Wally

I have an ULCS tray and arm set with a Sea & Sea YS-90, HW bulkhead converter and hardwired synch cord I bought from Divervision Divervision which allows true TTL. Works great for me.
