So far, from what I've seen I think that "Stareyehermit's" answer is the closest to what I saw. The body of the mass/creature was definitely not solid, in that I saw a fish seem to swim through it and appear to be inside.
Still it's hard to believe that a single squid could produce such a large collection of eggs and gelatinous material, or is this the output of many squid???
More info would be appreciated.
