Just bought my first housing last month and am diving with it this week. I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to how to store a housing- open or closed? The two things I am weighing are- Does storing it open dry out the O ring and does storing it closed compress/ stretch out the O ring? Am I thinking about this too hard?

Thanks,
Chris

Open...you dont need to keep the mechanical stress if is not needed.

If the housing will be stored long time, lub the rods or mechanical parts; reduce the stress also in the O-ring by removing it from the design location and lub with special silicon grease. keep stored and loose inside the housing.

To reduce the posibility of mold marks or other deformations due to the closing pressure on the o-ring, move it or rotate it, every other month if you are using it constantly.

If there are electrical connections, use "electronic grease" to avoid rust.

I take my O ring off the camera, put the lubricant on it and put it in a zip lock bag inside the housing. The housing is stored unlatched after being fully dried and wiped down from the last dive. I agree with others...do not store it with the O ring compressed.

Thanks for the info. What would you suggest to use to lube the rods? The same silicone grease as the O ring?
