No I fully understand the point. Abortion clinics were used here and they are doing their job, approve of it or not, as abortion clinics, not as "research" labs.

BTW the captain that was arrested from Sea Shepherd and who is currently standing trail in Japan was fired by Paul Watson for bringing a bow and arrows on his ship. So it's pretty disingenuous to say that "anything they do is all right as long as they win". That's obviously not their mindset at all.

Watson is very clear when it comes to weapons of any kind including pocket knives. You bring them you're sent home and you don't receive any help from Sea Shepherd. It's the Japanese that bring guns to their research projects.

Are you saying that Watson does not allow deckhands and people on the zodiacs to carry knives or does he just not allow people to bring their own personal knives. Cutting ropes and lines in a hurry can be a life saver at sea. A knife is a sailors tool at sea, not a weapon.

I'm sure some of those volunteers haven't heard the phrase "never stand in the bight of a line."

Considering that the open seas are, pretty much, anarchy I don't see any problem with a ship carrying firearms for protection. Be it research, shipping, or pleasure.

I am of the opinion that he makes countries like Japan want to whale more. If they give in to him they will lose a lot of face. So, I believe he does more harm than good.

I agree with ya on this. One of the very basic premises in warfare is that you have to know your enemy. If they really wanted to stop this they wouldn't be doing it on the seas, through protests, or even international pressure. They would instead be using technology to reach the youth of Japan (who have been rejecting a lot of traditional ideas), get the movement there against eating whale (I wouldn't even bring up whaling), and have that drive the change in the country.

As a side note: He makes people like me who are against whaling sympathize with the Japanese.
