67.83.59.238 Hi All! With 8 persons onboard, we made it out on Friday before the storm hit. Seas were pretty much flat. Our first stop was the Shrewsbury rocks. Water temp was 61 degrees on the surface and divers reported the bottom temp to be warmer than the surface. Viz looked good on the surface as we dropped the hook. It turned out that the viz on the bottom was in the 20 to 30 foot range. Lots of small bugs were reported and a few crickets made it up to the surface. In addition some huge tog were spotted - one diver passed up one because he or she was swimming with a mate. What compassion! We decided to hit another spot and boy were we happy. A local barge was the choice - with 40 foot of viz on the bottom. Several very large tog were taken. In addition, a huge school of porgies occupied the wreck. Even a yellow jack was taken. Some of the togs were taken out of abandoned lobster traps and many were set free. The divers enjoyed this wreck so much that we
decided to do a third dive on it. Watching the horizon in the southeast we could see the storm approaching. With dark clouds we could tell the forecasters were not kidding. After the 3rd dive we headed back to Belmar Marina and were safe in port before the rain started. What a great day. We briefley used the cabin heaters in the morning to warm up but it turned out to be quite comfortable by late morning. Our Schedule:
Wed 10:30am 2-3 tanks on the local reef (fish life has been incredible)
Fri 7:00am Trip to the Algol Bring Max 28 percent (dive shop will be doing some tech training) Open spots still available
Sat 7:00am Trip to the Algol Bring Max 28 percent (dive shop will again be doing tech training) Open spots still available
Sat 6:00pm Night Dive The moon should be close to full - weather permitting
Sun 10:00am 2 tank local reef diving (let's take advantage of the afternoon sun)
Sun 3:30pm Pennsylvania Special Twilight Dive (sleep late and still get to dive)
Stingray has heated cabin and hot coffee onboard. I will sail local trips with 3 divers pretty much any day of the week. November 15th Tautog season opens up and I believe up to 8 fish can be taken by each person onboard. In addition please inquire about fishing trips. Call Capt Henrik to reserve your spots for any of the above listed trips. 917-836-5354. Boooooooooo - Happy Holloween.
