We will be in Playa from 12/12 to 12/19 and are looking to dive at least 3 of the days we are there. We are Master Scuba (PADI) certified and want to dive our computers on the ocean dives. Any recommendations or contacts. No cattle boats. We also want to dive a couple of tanks in the Cenotes. Can't wait!!

My wife and I have stayed at the AventuraSpa a couple times and have always dove with Dive Aventuras (www.diveaventuras.com). I believe a couple from Maryland owns the place. We have always enjoyed diving with all the guides there. They use small boats that hold 6-8 divers and we have been when it was only 2 of us. It's only a 5 to 10 minute boat ride to the dive sites. We dove the cenotes with them also. Last time we were there, you could book through dives with them through the resort. It would be better (and cheaper) to contact them ahead of time and let them know when you would like to dive. The more dive you do with them, the cheaper they get. They will pick you up and take you back to the resort. You could walk there in about 15 minutes or so, but it's nice to take a ride. They will probably let you store your gear there if you like.

I have to agree with Robz. Dove with Adventuras and had nothing but good things to say. Did mainly shallow water since my buddy was newly cert. The reefs were decent. Good amount of smaller fish, but nothing huge. Saw 1 turtle while at safety stop. Good gear, small boats, good staff

I was at the catalonia maya riviera in late november/ early december and did 2 dives with Aquanauts in Puerto Aventuras, I was with two freinds who'd never dived before so sat through the 'discover' course with them helping them with it.

Mark - the owner - is a Canadian who has been living there for about 2 years. I was very happy with the service and the diving was spectacular.

They also do cenote dives and have a number of packages, but I was only able to squeeze in two dives. Next time though I will do a LOT more.

I was in PDC early November 2004 and dove with Dive Aventuras and they were great. I heard that there Cenote dives were great as well, I plan on doing that next time.

I was with a group of divers that went night diving with the dive shop at the Reef Club resort (Can't remember there name) and they said those guys were not experienced for night diving, the Dive Masters went ahead of the whole group never checking back at us until it was time to go up.
