Hi, I've just joined ScubaBoard hoping to get some help deciding between Murex Bangka and Gangga Island Resort.
  • As most of the dive sites seem to be around Bangka Island, is it better to stay on Bangka or is the boat journey from Gangga not long?
  • Do Gangga Divers regularly dive around Bangka Island?
  • How do the dive operations compare between the 2 resorts?
TIA

Although it's too spendy for me, Bastianos looks very nice from the water, has a nice long pier, and a fantastic house reef.
Bastianos Bangka is very nice indeed. In Feb 2020, my wife and I spent close to three weeks between Bastianos Bunaken,Bangka and Lembeh. At the time, Bastianos Bangka was only a year old, or so. Pretty much brand new and very nice facilities. Because of the onset of Covid, we were the only guests at Bunaken during our stay (had the entire resort to ourselves), then went to Bangka where there was a group of five Germans and then Lembeh where there were probably eight people total at anyone time.

Thanks for sharing your photos, Bastianos is one of the resorts in my shortlist. One of your photos is of their superior hillside room, did you stay in one of those?
When I contacted them they told me this room type has no sea view, only of trees?

Concerning Coral Eye - Stayed there in March. Doors lock, there is 24 hour electricity, a safe in the room, and there is air con. The beach is fine and cleaned daily. The house reef is great to snorkel. Staff was friendly. Meals were very good.
Interesting that they have lock on doors now.

As they are building new beachfront villas, I wonder if their one dining table will be able to accommodate everyone or if they will have to introduce smaller tables?

Yes, we did and this was the view we had. At low tide, you can also walk on the beach all the way to the village (and beyond) located half-way between Bastianos and Coral Eye.
