I have interest in getting certified with the Halcyon Symbios chest mounted rebreather system. So, I welcomed the opportunity to examine it in the flesh at the last DEMA convention. At this point the issue becomes agency approval for certification purposes.

For those that are also interested, I thought I would relay a communication on the status of this system with TDI.

My understanding of the processes is that it must first be approved for certification by TDI. After approval, individual instructors can then get certified and accumulate the required hours on the unit before being approved to instruct students.

The current status is that TDI the process has started, but that TDI is currently awaiting some specific documentation needed from Halcyon on the Symbios.

So, apparently, it will still be some time before divers can expect to enroll in a TDI course using the Halcyon Symbios.

It’s also not really a totally finished unit

This is the same as pretty much any other CCR before release.
There are a few potential instructors currently building up their personal hours on the unit, so that they will be ready to teach it when the unit is released for public sale.
