With some serious surf at OGB today, a few of us headed over to SFP for a nice dive. With an onshore wind the viz wasn't too great, but the water temps were a nice warm 43degrees.

Is there such a thing as a "nice dive" at Stage Fort??? I mean, I only go there when everything, including area birdbaths, have been blown out. SFP is the ultimate booby prize for me. I've packed all my stuff, drove all that way, and if I'm that determined to get wet, I'll dive there. It's sorta like a sandbox under 20 feet of water IMHO.

Someone previously posted it is a dangerous dive. "So boring one risks falling asleep while diving and having reg pop out of mouth and drown." There comes a point when need to make call is dive worth hassle of rinsing gear off? Too bad quarry in Halibut point isn't open for divers. would be a good plan B and "gear rinser too"

I didn't think so!
me and johnnyseko did 2 nice dives there today!
Hit 30 feet not the best dives but dives.
Found a snorkel a ss weight keeper and 2 keeper lobsters:-)
First of the year yeehaa :-)

I've heard all bad things about this site. Today it was the only one that was divable. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that we had 2 descent dives! I didnt expect any rock/reef, which we did come across and were able to bug hunt. I only caught shorts, but it is fun all the same. Just not eating any now.... Weather was so bad we spotted a few seals on the surface taking shelter in the harbor. Too bad they didnt swim near us. RickL pointed out a small lumpfish in the eelgrass - first time I've ever seen one! That is one cool looking fish! So that was the quickest SI ever and I've never stripped out of a wetsuit and back into clothes that fast...it was frigid out with that wind! Very nice in the water with vis varying 5' - 15' getting better the further out we went. I am finally starting to feel my toes now....:D

For me the "booby prize" means Long Pond and 6' of viz in cold FW. Anytime I'm in SW I'm happy. In the case of this dive, I was diving with some new buddies and I was just glad to get in the water, and, YES we checked about 10 other spots and this was the only one that we could get in.
