My wife and I just returned from a great week of diving in St.Thomas USVI. We did 19dives in six days with the Chris Sawyer Dive Center in Red Hook. We stayed just a few miles away from Red Hook in a condominium at Point Pleasant. Notable dive sites included Cow and Calf Rocks, French Cap, Arches and Tunnels, Fishbowl and Castle Reef.

On our next to last dive we did Cow Rock and along with the cool swimthroughs we saw an Eagle Ray, a really big Nurse Shark and a Hawksbill Turtle. On other dives we saw many Sting Rays, a few turtles and a couple of large and small Nurse Sharks.

The condominium at Point Pleasant was at about 500 feet above the water and had a full 220 degrees of waterfront views that included St. John and some of the other smaller islands. The condo was a real bargain too, compared with the all-inclusive Wyndam Sugar Bay where we have stayed the previous three years.

The folks at the Chris Sawyer Dive Center remain some of the best I've ever met. One day we actually had the "Chris Sawyer" as our boat captain. Wayne, the guy who certified us a couple of years ago and took us through AOW and Nitrox training last year, saved our bacon by immediately fixing a leaky first-stage when we arrived for our first dive. Travis, Sam and Larry were other instructors who we loved to dive with. Doing "Arches and Tunnels" and "French Cap" with Larry were two of the most memorable dives I've ever had.

All-in-all a great week of getting warm and wet in the Caribbean,

smokey,

We're off to Utila for two weeks in March with our three grown kids and their significant others/spouses. We all went to Cozumel last year after the holidays and had such a great time we're trying it again. My two sons and daughter-in-law are all certified and my daughter and her SO are planning on getting certified with a referral in Utila.

Thanks for the info!

What's the price range on the condo? If you were going there by yourself, what would be the most economical choice for accommodations? I prefer to spend my $$ on the diving & topside adventures rather than a posh resort.

Barry,

Tha condo we stayed in at St. Thomas was $800.00 for the week. When we went to the all-inclusive Wyndham Sugar Bay it was about $350.00 per day so the condo was a good bit cheaper. I don't know if you could get something more economical that the condo but you might check the vacation rental by owners site at http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/caribbean/usvi-st-thomas. Just be sure to rent something near where your dive shop will be, as traffic, especially around Charlotte Amalie, can be awful if you have to drive through it to and from the dive shop.
