I am going on a cruise next week to St. Thomas & St. Maarten with Royal Carribean.
What can I expect from the Dive excursions available?

I am trying to decide if I should bring my gear or use theirs. They offer the option of packages with equipment & Without Equipment. If I use their equipment am I going to end up with crappy gear?

Is it worth the effort to bring my own?
If anyone has experienced the dive packages available from this cruise line I would greatly appreciate your opinions, advise.....ect.

Since this will be my first saltwater dive I am looking forward to seeing some reefs.

I will be heading down to the same spots and a bunch more next month. Most folks say that St. Maarten is not good diving and you should make that a beach day. The two recommended dive shops from most folks here in St. Thomas seem to be Chris Sawyers and Blue Island Divers.

Looks like I am diving in St Maarten and spending the day shopping & sightseeing with my wife on St. Thomas,. :(

Oh well, like they say, the key to a good marriage is compromise.
I made up my mind though. She is getting certified asap!!!!

My reading of the piece is that great diving is in Saba (another island nearby St. Maartens). Here is the magazine's website: http://www.scubadiving.com. I am not sure whether you can get the article online. If you are interested, I can fax/email you a copy of the article. Just send me a PM. I was in St. Maartens before I got certified and didn't have personal diving experience. The French side is great for beach lovers (and nude sun bathers :-).

Maybe I'll see you in St Thomas. I'm on NCL departing Manhatten on Dec 10th should be there on the 12th

Thanks for the link. Tons of good information there. I went to it but did not find the article you mentioned.
If you have time to scan it I would greatly appreciate it. I will PM you my email.
Thanks again.
