I booked a last minute trip to St Marten, staying in Grand Case for the long holiday weekend, and we are considering a trip to Saba.

I'll probably have time for one dive while I'm out there - so I'm wondering what your recommendations are for where to dive? - in St Marten or in Saba ?

Thanks

Was there last month.

Dove with Octopus Diving in Grand Case
and Sea Saba on Saba.

Would use both operations again without question!

have you guys done the ferry day trip to Saba ?

Does the following sound too ambitious?

- taking the ferry over at 9am
- going for a quick light hike
- sending wifey off to the spa while I go for a dive
- make it back to the ferry by 3:30 pm ?

Definitely Saba. For a one day trip I'd take WinAir, do two dives and a short hike up Mt scenery before the flight back.

With the ferry on that schedule you're going to be very pressed for time. IIRC, the cab ride from the airport to the harbor is about a half hour.

Edit: Also, at least on my trip there, the first dive of the day was the signature pinnacle dive. The plane got us there just in time where the ferry wouldn't have.

thanks for the info - i was looking at flights initially but they looked pricey, like upwards of $280 for 2 ppl roundtrip, but i just noticed this on their specials section:

DAY TRIP SPECIAL

Need to take a day trip to ST. BARTHS / SABA or ST. EUSTATIUS, why take the boat while WINAIR can get you there in as little as 10 minutes.

Enjoy the beauty, culture and history of these islands. Special roundtrip fares start as low as:

- Saba US$ 88.00

- St. Eustatius US$ 89.00

- St. Barths US$ 130.00

Travel from St. Maarten must be on flights before 11AM and returning to St. Maarten on flights after 4PM. Seats are limited.

Above fares includes all taxes and surcharges.

Yes, get the web special. The flight leaves your time on island tight enough as it is.

Although I would like to try the Ferry some time.

I did the ferry both ways due to luggage weight restrictions on flying.

With the Edge Ferry you are less likely to get seasick.
The Dawn II ferry is such that you are down in the boat and its difficult to see out - more sea sickness opportunity.

The cost round trip is around $100 regardless of which one you do. Also, they do not run every day so you need to plan accordingly.
