Hi! I'm looking to plan for a diving trip to St. John, US Virgin Islands. My brother and I will be there from the 17th to the 27th of December. Any recommendations as to lodging and diving would be greatly appreciated. We're interested in: lodging for hopefully $100 or less a night, a few boat dives (we'll probably pick one shop to do all the diving with), and some shore diving (day and night). Thanks for any info!

Ten days on St.Jo - how nice. The island is mostly a U.S.National Park, with lots of interesting scenery, historic sites, etc. However, I have not been there in over a decade, so let me suggest you post questions about the island on our Caribbean forum here for more specialized focus.

You're kinda' new to SB. If I can assist you in getting used to the various forums and where to post various questions, please PM me. :cowboy:

Hi. You should do a search in the forum for Carribbean dive destinations. There are numerous threads, including: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=111348

Also, for excellent hotel and resort information and user reviews, try tripadvisor.com.

We will be on St. Thomas December 19-24, and then on a Windjammer cruise Dec. 25-31. Have a great time on your trip, and let's hope the weather and the diving are great!

I was at st. john in may for a couple weeks and dove almost every day.All shore dives .The best place i found was hurricane hole.not a great kids beach since its a coral beach not sand but if you go out to the left theres a good 60 foot wall with lots of coral and fish.also came upon 2 octopuses 1 juvi. and 1 adult.had a great time which Im sure you will as well!!! enjoy and be safe.

Brian....where did you get your tanks?????

I was there many years ago before I got certified and I know of one lds downtown to the left and up the hill....but I was under the impression shore diving on St J was a no go???...

When I was there last I stayed at the Westin...it wasnt cheap ....but the dive shop associated with the hotel had some bcd's by the pool and would let you mess around with them.....good free advert for the come try scuba.

Clue me in on where you got your tanks pls....

Shore diving can be interesting for experienced divers like Rich - and I guess for Brian. He doesn't list his Dive Information - training and dives logged, but he does consider himself a solo diver, so I'm sure he's not a newbie. :05:

Since Violeta is an OW trained diver with less than 50 dives, I imagine she would like to dive with a boat operator, preferably with one who will put a DM in the water as a guide. :D
