Thanks Mayor. I'm glad you posted to resurrect this thread. I'll check out Scuba St. Croix.

Keep the advice coming folks!

How many sharks are killed by humans? I know the number is very said. You just never list the number on your scorecard.

Mayor: I'm not sure what you are trying to say.

The predator scorecard is my way of pointing out that humans are greator predators than sharks. On average 10 people are killed each year by sharks wheras 60,000,000 sharks are killed by humans.

One study puts the estimate as high as 73 million.

Thats the number I was looking for (60,000,000). I just did not see it in the scorecard. People need to have a better understanding of sharks. Why must me destroy what we dont understand?

Did you come up with some plans for your trip? We really did have a great time on both islands. I just can't get over how nice the diving was in St croix.

We dove with Anchor Dive http://www.anchordivestcroix.com last July in St Croix and found them to be a good operation with a nice sized boat that was never too packed. I think they come and pick folks up, but I'm not sure. We had a rental car.
Anchor is right next to the wall dives at the Salt River.
We dove & enjoyed the West Wall & East Wall as well as Rust-Op-Twist and Gentle Winds and found them interesting with good coral, sponges & fish.
I vaguely remember the dive profiles being something like - work your way down to 80 for 15 minutes then up to 40 until first diver in group gets down to 1000 psi or so.
They are the only dive op we used so I can't compare.
Have fun! .. a few pix from that trip .. http://delargy.com/2006_07_Virgin_Islands/st_croix.htm

Mayor: Yes, it is apalling to think about the number of sharks killed or maimed by having their fins cut off. Imagine the outrage if people went around cutting the tails off of dogs and cats.

We definitely have the hotels booked and will finalize the dive plans soon. Thanks again.

Frank: thanks for the intro. to Anchor Dive and for sharing the pics. So far I've been diving in Hawaii and the Sea of Cortez so I'm looking forward to my first Caribbean experience. Looks colorful.:blinking:

St. Croix has awesome diving. I dove with Dive Experience, S.C.U.B.A, and Cane Bay Scuba. Without doubt, Cane Bay was the absolute best. Northstar is a must dive. The Frederickstedt Pier (at night) is a very nice dive. Snorkeling at Buck Island is fun as well. There are five wrecks on the Island and most are easy to dive (AOW Level).

While the walls are deep, the reef slopes to the drop off zone and there is pleny to see above 80 feet.

Have a great time.

Scubajcf: Great tips. We'll do Buck Island as a family and hope to get a couple of boat dives in. It'll cost me some Spa treatments for the wife.

p.s. Have the Oceanic Excursion and am anxious to use it. I owe you lunch for all of the advice and tips....let me know if you are planning to be in Tucson.

I have a Oceanic Chute 3 and love it. The new Excursion is very nice.

What hotel did you book with on the island?

Lunch would be nice, what time?

Mayor: We are at the Buccaneer on St. Croix. It was recommended by a colleague and seems to be great for families.

Lunch is anytime you are in Tucson, AZ. Plenty of sand....just no ocean.

Anyone else with restaurant or tourist tips for St. John or St. Croix????
