Well, there is decent diving in Capetown, albeit with colder waters - False Bay probably still had its Great Whites. And My Octopus Teacher was filmed in Capetown. So there was probably no need to venture to the middle of nowhere.

Besides, prior to the airport in St. Helena being opened in 2016 and commercial flight services starting in 2017, it was a 5-day trip there by ship and another 5 days to go back. Not sure I would have done it either unless I could see mermaids underwater. Sure, the endemics make the diving interesting, but that's me, and it can get old in a hurry.
