I wanted to do a quick trip to bonaire in October but the flights are INCREDIBLY expensive! St. Croix is my next options but I have never been there.
any recommendations on decent resorts?
Are there any decent beach dives (likely lovely Bonaire!)
Will I need a car?
In the past, I have been able to fly, stay, drive, and dive in bonaire for about $1,000 so I hope to spend the same amount.
Also, which side of the road do they drive on? Im a :dork2: and refuse to drive on the left.

Hi Kia,
I was in St.Croix in April. Yes they do drive on the left side of the road, but you should adapt quickly. I can't suggest any resorts as I stayed with friends for my visit, I did however meet the owners of the Buccaneer which is one of the finer resorts on the island a very nice place.
I dove exclusively with Cane Bay Dive Shop, it is at the other end of the island(check there for other resorts). Grab a tank from them $5.00 walk 50' to the beach swim out 100' and drop down, The Wall then drops a couple thousand feet!!awesome!!. There are several other beach dives there as well-Northstar and also the Frederiksted pier, very nice night dive. Have fun and say hey to Sam for me if you get to Cane Bay.
Thanks Jan.

Orbitz is showing some good fares to Curasao. I would like to stay where I can do both beach dives and boat dives. I wonder if I would need a car for the beach dives?
Any advice on hotel and whether I would need a car?

Ditto on Cane Bay. They have some properties that you can rent by the week. As for North Star ***** makes a great night dive.

There are several hotels with shore diving on site, so you can do boat and shore diving from your hotel without a car. They vary a lot in price/quality of the hotel, food, dive op, shore diving. From east to west there are Lion's Dive, Beaches, Marriott, Habitat, Sunset Waters, All West Apartments, Kura Hulanda Lodge. I've probably missed someplace. If you search for these places on this board there's lots of old reviews.

There is also a well regarded op called the Dive Bus which will pick up at hotels near town and take you to shore dive sites.

We always get a car in Curacao, not to do shore diving in other locations (though there's lots available) but to get to restaurants, shopping, and whatever around the island.

Looks like mom and I are headed to curasao and staying at West End.
I couldn't believe the deal on Priceline. I expected to have to bid on tix but the fares came right up...$513 per tix and leaving NEXT WEEK. American Air wanted close to $800 each and Orbitz also.
Anyway, thanks for the input fellow divers.
I am looking forward to some time in the water!
